Well the day didn't go near what we thought it would, non the less we finally got to meet our beautiful baby girl!
We got a call at 6:00 asking us to be at the hospital at 7:30...we were still in bed! The first of the three day waiting for the call period and I chose to sleep in because I didn't think they would call us until around 8 or so. We got up and both got showered, got Kypton ready and out the door by 7:00.
Got to the hospital and it took 2 HOURS to get checked in because they are in the process or changing everything over to electronic records...I couldn't imagine going in at 8cm and having to do all that I would have been livid..thankfully I just got to sit in bed.
Finally after getting settled, "Kenzlie" got Kypton some big brother gifts to enjoy while we waited for her to join us. We let him open that and him and Dan enjoyed some breakfast. They got my IVs going and started Pitocin at 9:37. The waiting began....we waited...and waited...
We got to a point where the Dr couldn't believe I wasn't having contraction so they did do an internal monitor the rest of our waiting period. Mind you I wasn't having contractions. We did the birthing ball, the walking, the different positions...nothing was working. I got to the point where I was starting to freak out because the nurse said I was almost maxed out on the Pitocin and would need the Dr to approve more. Naturally my next question was, "what happens if this doesn't work?" We keep walking and changing positions, they will let you go 24 hours after they have broken your water until C-section as long as baby is doing okay. Thankfully, Kenzlie was doing great she was just taking her sweet time. I do recall telling her a time a two that she was going straight to time out for making me stress and worry. I really didn't want to even have c-section mentioned and I thank my nurse she did an AMAZING job of telling me we were going to get her out naturally.
They were so sure my delivery was going to go so fast they had the Drs. table and the baby table prepped by noon...we did the guessing game again on what time we thought she would arrive...by 5:00 we all had to redo our guesses...major fail!
Things finally started to progress and I can't even tell you how quickly they progressed. All I know what I wanted to make it to a 7 before I took and pain meds. No, for those wondering I didn't do an Epidural this time around either. I'm not really sure how far I made it but I know I received my 1st and only dose at 8:15 and really wanted more at 8:45 but you have to wait an hour. Well, about 5 minutes after asking for a second dose I felt the need to push and called the poor nurse back in. I hate being needy so I kept telling her sorry but low and behold I was right I needed to push. She let me do a push to move a tiny bit of cervix that was left then called the Dr. I was told to wait until the Dr. got there to push again. I had to do 3 or four sets of contractions while waiting without pushing. For those who haven't had a baby that might not make sense for the rest of you....yeah I was none to happy. I am told I even yelled at the Dr to hurry up. Which I don't recall but at that point everything is so blurry that I will just take their words for it. I did apologize when she came to check on me the next day though. Either way I pushed for about 10 minutes and our bundle of joy arrived at 9:04 PM.
It's been almost two weeks since we had her and life at home is going better than I thought. All of us get frustrated at times with all the new transitions but thankfully Dan is home until next Monday so I have some extra hands to smooth the waters.
Kypton loves his sister, giving kisses and holding her hand. He likes to cuddle at the end of the night when we all sit on the couch and read books or watch him play on the iPad. I can't lie that's my favorite time too.
We are two weeks from Kypton's birthday and this Mom needs to get on invitations--this whole not driving until Saturday thing is for the birds along with no vigorous exercise for 6 weeks. I am about to lose it. The recovery I feel has been 10X easier this time around so I am really chomping at the bit to get our routine back and get a HARD workout in!
